No casserole is better. I sometimes use canned beans and half the butter. It’s so good and easy to make. Today I made it without the onion topping since I just didn’t have any. It was still delicious. I added some mozzarella as well.

Beware this recipe..unless you don’t mind making it more than once. Made this for Thanksgiving and this was the first dish on the table that was gone. The comments were “I usually don’t link green bean Casserole but that was really good”. So good in fact that the first thing this years Christmas hostess asked me to bring was this green bean casserole. This is a new family favorite.

Someone always brings green bean casserole to the holiday meals and I like it. My sister-in-law made this recipe for Thanksgiving this year and wow I had three servings! Seriously outstanding I wanted to cozy up to the pan with a spoon. Paula Deen has nailed the comfort foods between this recipe and the crockpot Mac and cheese who needs a main course? ????

In reply to Charlie. I replace the house seasoning with minced garlic, salt and pepper, in all her recipes. But I'm guessing back when you posted this it didn't have an explanation of what her house seasoning was haha.

If you are reading this to decide to make this for your family, DO IT. There are people in my family who HATE green bean casserole and LOVE this. And another family member who is obsessed with his mother’s green bean casserole and now says “Mine” is way better. Don’t let the canned soup fool you it tastes amazing. I make this every year, and now I even have to make it for friends’ thanksgiving dinner and they come pick it up. It’s TOO good. And easier than it seems.

I use minced garlic from the jar and salt/pepper to replace the house seasoning. I also prepare it all the night before (Minus the cheese and fried onions). Then the next day right before cooking I mix in half the cheese and half the fried onions. Then in the last ten minutes I put the other half of the cheese on top (in the middle) and the onions all along the side of the pan so it looks pretty. I also double the mushrooms, and reuse the chicken stock for boiling more green beans for the extra sides for others.

This is the best green bean casserole ever. I tried it for Thanksgiving, and it is so good you will make it all the time. Try mixing all of the cheese or most into the casserole, then sprinkle some on top during the last 10 min. Don’t wait for a holiday, this is to good to only have a couple times of times a year!

I have never had this dish with cheese, I can’t wait to give it a try. Greenbeans are my favorite.
